* John Ellenberg came up with the idea to establish the High Flight Memorial. He handled the money and ordered the plaques until his untimely passing in an aircraft accident in Alaska. John's name was added to the memorial shortly after his passing. Since his passing, the Commission has handled the money and approved new additions to the memorial. The purpose of the memorial is to recognize and memorialize individuals who had a significant impact on GMU while they were on this earth. Some worked here, some flew out of the airport for many years, some were air traffic controllers and airport staff, etc.
