Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) Field Trips
Field trips at the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) are available for your group. We request a $5.00 donation per child to go toward the maintenance of Runway Park. This can be paid at the time of your visit (cash or checks preferred). Checks should be made payable to the Greenville Airport Commission or “GAC” for short. Credit cards payments are accepted, but a 3% service charge will be have to be added.
Adult supervision is required. Please have enough adult chaperons for the number and age of the children that you bring to the field trip.
For school field trips, we waive the $5.00 fee for teachers and volunteers that are chaperoning the children. Field trips are usually conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays (excluding holidays) starting at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. and last approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours.
Advance reservations are required. We will not reserve the date and time without a field trip request form. The reservations are first come, first serve. We reserve the right to cancel field trips at any time.
All tours will meet at the picnic hangar on the right of Runway Park. Please make sure to program your navigation for Runway Park and not the Greenville Downtown Airport.
Please email Robert Hoover at email@example.com for more information and to schedule your field trip.
Field Trips for Children through 5th Grade
Field trips are held at Runway Park and feature an aviation lesson and an opportunity to climb inside a real aircraft. THIS FIELD TRIP IS OUTSIDE SO IT IS WEATHER DEPENDENT. IF WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE POOR ON YOUR SCHEDULED FIELD TRIP DAY, YOU MAY RESCHEDULE YOUR VISIT. We will try to work with you on the best available options for rescheduling.
Field Trips for Students 6th Grade through 12th Grade
For groups consisting of rising 6th graders (usually means 11- 12 years old) and older, field trips will need to be tailored differently. Please notify us about specific learning needs.
Locations visited and the itinerary may vary but may include information about aviation careers, an opportunity to climb inside a real aircraft, visiting the air traffic control tower, meeting a pilot, and learning about the Greenville Downtown Airport. NOTE: Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, all national airport control tower tours have been suspended until further notice.
When the weather is nice, many groups like to go to Runway Park after their visit. Please let us know if you would like to reserve the outdoor picnic hangar inside Runway Park for lunch.
If you prefer to have your lunch catered by the Runway Cafe, their indoor hangar can be reserved for your group. For additional information and a group rate menu, contact the Runway Cafe at 864-991-8488 after you schedule your field trip.
To schedule a field trip, please email a completed Field Trip Request Form to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have questions or need additional information, please call Robert Hoover at 864-242-4777.
